New adidas commercial has 10 of the world's most explosive players fighting for thing they love most.

Today adidas announces the launch of a global football advertising campaign for the adidas F50+ football range. The integrated advertising campaign called "Gimme the ball", includes TV, Cinema, Print, Outdoor and E-marketing. The global kick off on terrestrial and satellite stations will be on 12 April 2005.

The campaign, conceived by independent 180 Amsterdam, part of the 180\TBWA alliance, centres on a 60 second commercial, entitled "Gimme the ball." The spot appears as a Napoleonic battle played out on a gritty urban landscape. A teenage couple witnesses the unfolding drama, as a growing mass of adidas footballers try to keep possession of a single football, while real and supernatural adversaries attempt to rob them of it. Jermain Défoe is tripped by a tree root; Lukas Podolski is outfoxed by a moving hole in the ground. Then Arjen Robben evades a two headed dog and Javier Saviola escapes a flock of crazed roosters. The spot is resolved into a classic Delacroix-like battle painting as the action descends upon two stunned kids. The impressive music used in the commercial was arranged by Peter Raeburn, with sound effects by Sound Tree, both from London. The composition is a remix of the classical piece “Sabre Dance” by Aram Khachaturian.

The spot was directed by the MJZ Swedish director Fredrik Bond in a five day shoot outside of St Albans in the United Kingdom. Fredrik began his career as a still photographer. After writing and producing TV shows and creating a spec film he moved into advertising.  Bond and adidas have a history together as he was the director of one of the previous awarded adidas campaigns: “adidas makes you better.” Fredrik’s portfolio shows numerous awarded commercials and he has several prestigious distinctions for his work.

An integrated print and outdoor campaign is developed in order to support the film and a number of various length cut-downs - including 30sec, 15 and 10sec commercials. The print and outdoor executions will run throughout the world in sports and lifestyle magazines.

““Gimme the ball” represents adidas’ untameable passion and commitment to football. It shows how the world’s top players always look for an opportunity to get the ball on their feet. With this campaign we will continue to excite our audience about our new product and our brand” says Uli Becker, Head of Global communications at adidas.
