After launching the first T-MAC in 2000, adidas is excited to announce the fifth edition of NBA Superstar Tracy McGrady’s signature shoe series, the T-MAC 5. The T-MAC 5 is set to launch globally at all major retail partners and on-line at www.adidas.com on October 28, 2005.
The T-MAC 5 continues to push the boundaries of conventional basketball footwear by bringing together both proven adidas technology and performance components with revolutionary design elements.
From the technology and performance side, the shoe’s upper will feature lightweight synthetic leather with geoFIT pods that are anatomically placed and a molded strap. Within the midsole there is internal EVA with a TPU heel chassis, customized molded PU sockliner with adiPRENE and adiPRENE inserts. All of these components are put into the T-MAC 5 for one reason, to provide the player with the best fitting and highest performing basketball shoe on the market.
When looking at the T-MAC 5 one thing that really sticks out is the inclusion of real wood into the shoe. “When we starting designing the shoe I really wanted something that represented me and my passion for the game, so we decided to do something that had never been done before in a basketball shoe and that was to put a piece of the court into it,” stated Tracy McGrady. “It is also one of the lightest and most comfortable shoes I have ever played in, so when people check it out I know they will love it." Inspiration for the T-MAC 5 was taken from Asian design culture and the use of very soft and aggressive arches throughout.
The T-MAC 5 will be featured in two initial colors: white/black/red (releasing October 28, 2005) and black/red (releasing December 13, 2005), with an additional color hitting the market in February 2006 around the NBA All-Star Game. The T-MAC 5 will carry a retail price of $125.00 (Dollars)/150.00 (Euro)/1380 (RMB).
Supporting the launch of the T-MAC 5 will be an exciting advertising campaign, including outdoor advertising, extensive internet activities, a comprehensive POS package and a variety of public relations events.
