Los Angeles welcomes first adidas Originals Store

Portland, OR, March 9, 2005

Los Angeles welcomes first adidas Originals Store

adidas eyes Philadelphia for next location

adidas continues its strong nationwide retail growth, opening its first Originals store in Los Angeles and announcing plans for a store in Philadelphia.

adidas Originals Melrose opened to the public on March 1, 2005. The 2,465 square foot store is located at 8009 Melrose Avenue. This will be followed by adidas Originals Philadelphia, which will open in early April, at 436 South Street.

“Based on the continued success of our current retail stores, we have opened our Los Angeles store and have signed the lease on the Philadelphia property. We now are evaluating other opportunities for further expansion of our retail business in the US,” said Paul McGuire, Head of Retail Development, adidas America. Paul recently joined adidas in this newly-created position, bringing with him more than 17 years of retail development experience.

To celebrate the Los Angeles opening, adidas Originals Melrose will host the Superstar 35th Anniversary Exhibition (March 1-20) and the retail launch of the Superstar 35 “Music Series” (March 19). As a tribute to the 35th anniversary of the Superstar, adidas gave friends and fellow sneaker lovers from the music, fashion and art worlds the chance to create their own unique pair of Superstars, resulting in a collection of 35 models in five different series: Music, Cities, Expression, Anniversary and Consortium.

The Exhibition showcases all 35 limited-edition models and is open to the public through Sunday, March 20th.  The Music Series will launch on Saturday, March 19 at 11:00am. Models available include: Red Hot Chili Peppers, Ian Brown, Run DMC, Roc-A-Fella, Missy Elliott, Bad Boy and Underworld/Tomato. Superstar 35 designs and partner bios are viewable at www.adidas.com/superstar35.

adidas Originals Stores are located in the world’s leading metropolitan areas, including Tokyo, London, Hong Kong, and Berlin, among others. The first U.S. adidas Originals store opened in SoHo, NY in September 2002. Since then adidas has opened South Beach, FL; Cambridge, MA; Georgetown, DC; Portland, OR and most recently, Chicago, IL.

The Originals collection is part of adidas' Sport Heritage Division and represents a true fusion of sport authenticity and global street style. The other two divisions making up adidas' three-divisional structure are Sport Performance and Sport Style. This structure allows adidas to expand its customer base and to gain deeper market penetration in its existing markets.

Always inspired by authentic historical moments in adidas’ large sporting history, adidas Originals is the ultimate aspirational street fashion label for today’s lifestyle consumer. Originals products are represented by the Trefoil logo, introduced in 1972.
