 adidas Originals’ leading street style has its history

Herzogenaurach, June 2005

adidas Originals’ leading street style has its history

For the Spring/Summer 2006 season, adidas Originals selects four key themes to underline the Trefoil’s core identity: how sport technology made its way to the street and turned into timeless street and style credibility.

Running

adidas’ passion for the running discipline is fully expressed in the 1984 collection.

That year, adidas released three high-tech running shoes in a row, all equipped with different never-seen-before revolutionary technologies: the Micropacer, the Rising Star and the LA Trainer.

- The Micropacer has a computer integrated in the tongue of the shoe, counting the number of steps a person takes, also usable as a stopwatch;

- The Rising Star has interchangeable EVA locks in the midsole making the shoe adaptable to each individual running style;

- The LA Trainer was the first shoe with adjustable cushioning level of the outsole.

Over 20 years later, all these models are still on the mind of our target consumer.

- The Micropacer is the most sought-after running shoe ever;

- The Rising Star is one of the most iconic silhouettes of all time;

- The LA Trainer was one of the most successful running training shoes in 1984 and got a boost in its popularity through the LA Olympics in 1984.

In order to bring a complete package to the market, apparel pieces are linked to footwear through colour and graphics. Some pieces are one-to-one re-introductions of past silhouettes while others are updated cuts and styles featuring 1984 artwork.

World Cup - Greatest Moments

As the No. 1 football brand, adidas will celebrate the World Cup big time. In June 2006, Germany will welcome the FIFA World Cup and not only then but also in the months and weeks leading up to the event the world will focus on mainly one thing: football.

Most of the people older than 15 years will look back to previous championships where rivals weren’t beaten and revenge might still haunt their minds… We all also remember certain glorious moments and players that made our lives more enjoyable: Maradona’s hand of god when he single-handedly beat the Brits in 1986; Roger Milla from Cameroon doing his dance with the flag post in Italy in 1990 or Geoff Hurst’s “Wembley goal” in 1966. The list is endless, the memories will last forever.

Only the street fashion label adidas Originals can make an authentic link to these historical moments thanks to adidas’ long time commitment to football and the World Cup in particular. And also only adidas Originals has the credibility, knowledge, passion and skills to take these moments and transform them into a contemporary piece of apparel and the right pair of sneakers to celebrate these greatest moments.

Pistol Pete

This collection theme is inspired by Pistol Pete Maravich, one of the NBA’s Top 50 Players. He holds nearly every scoring record in college basketball. Outside of being known as the “Pistol” because of the technique he used to shoot the ball (out of the hip), Pete also is known as the NBA’s first showman, thanks to his incredible ball handling skills and shooting.

Spring/Summer 2006 brings back the original Pro Model Org in the “Pistol Pete” version, a coloured one. It’s the model that Pistol Pete wore many times while playing for the Atlanta Hawks in the 70’s. The Pistol Lo represents Pete’s accurate shooting from long range.

Tees, jackets, polo’s and reversible tanks and shorts that are very graphically driven make up the Pistol Pete collection. The apparel is inspired by Pistol’s Summer Basketball Camps.

Coastal

One of the smaller themes of previous seasons, this season Coastal is almost a mini-collection of its own. Street and sidewalk credentials are the inspiration behind the typical adidas skate silhouettes, pants and shirts. Skating, surfing and riding are just one part of the coastal lifestyle because coastal style also is seen off the bike and the ramp and in recording studios and artist studios. The coastal lifestyle is bound together by creativity and adidas Coastal celebrates this originality: all styles and pieces are designed with adidas authenticity and stay true to pure coastal inspiration.
