adidas builds performance enhancing compression technology into new strip
The game of Twenty20 Cricket is powerful, fast and exciting and now the Australian Cricket Team has a uniform to match! The team, currently at the annual player camp in Coolum, today previewed the revolutionary sleeveless uniform that will be turning heads during the upcoming ICC World Twenty20 in South Africa.
Australian Captain, Ricky Ponting praised the contemporary design, “The ICC World Twenty20 Tournament will involve fast games with short recovery periods. This new uniform has been specifically designed with the player’s comfort and performance in mind”.
The sleeveless dual layer design was developed by adidas in an effort to reflect the youthfulness of the Twenty20 game, while also integrating the latest technologies in compression and lightweight, breathable fabrics.
“Whilst the most obvious difference to the new uniform is that it’s sleeveless, the key innovation behind its design is the incorporation of adidas TechFit compression technology in the under layer,” said adidas Australia Managing Director Kevin Roberts. “With the new game of Twenty20 being about power and speed, we are thrilled to be able to create a uniform that will deliver a performance advantage to the players on the field.”
The new uniform provides players with increased muscle support and power through the aluminium coloured compression layer, whilst the predominantly gold outer layer features ClimaCool® fabrics that will keep them comfortable at any temperature and allow them to consistently perform at their peak.
The key benefits of the uniform include:
• The world’s first sleeveless cricket top. The dual layered design encourages air circulation to increase player comfort.
• TechFit Compression. Engineered to support muscles and reduce muscle vibration and oscillation, thus reducing energy loss and muscles fatigue allowing for a faster recovery on the field and between matches.
• TechFit featuring PowerWeb. The TPU (Thermoplastic Urethane) Powerbands embodied in the compression layer give players an extra kick of power by storing and returning energy as muscles expand and contract. With the added stamina and explosiveness of TechFit Powerweb players can be more powerful, explosive and efficient on the field. Tests have proven that adidas TechFit Powerweb delivers a performance advantage.
• ClimaCool® technology features a combination of moisture wicking fabrics, open mesh and ventilation channels keeping cool air flowing in and heat and sweat flowing out.
• Formotion™ design, engineered to move naturally with the athlete’s body for better fit and comfort while in motion.
Australian Coach, Tim Nielsen reinforced the team’s enthusiasm for the new uniform, “The ICC World Twenty20 Tournament is an exciting and new frontier for the Australian Team. It’s fantastic that adidas and Cricket Australia have taken the initiative to develop a highly innovative uniform that will deliver the team a competitive edge on the field.”
The Twenty20 supporter uniform (RRP$100) will be available at selected Sports Retailers nationally from August 2007. Australia’s first official Twenty20 match in the new strip will be on September 12 against Zimbabwe at Newlands Cricket Ground in Cape Town.
