adidas Nations, adidas’ global grassroots basketball program, will host the third annual global exhibition in Dallas at the Integrated Athletic Development (IAD) facility August 4-9, 2009. The world’s elite players 18-and-under from seven international teams: Africa, Asia, Canada, Europe, Latin America, US 2010 and US 2011 have been selected to train and compete in the prestigious annual exhibition. Fourteen current stars and highly esteemed NBA veterans join the global program as Head Coaches and NBA Mentors for the adidas camp attendees, and twenty-four collegiate players will reinforce the coaching as camp counselors.
NBA players Jerryd Bayless, Mike Conley, Daequan Cook, Eric Gordon, Serge Ibaka, Brook and Robin Lopez will be on-site to assist the young players and mentor them throughout the camp. NBA veterans Eddie Johnson, Frank Johnson, Larry Krystkowiak, Eric Musselman, Ed Schilling, Detlef Schrempf and Reggie Theus will act as regional Head Coaches.
The goal of adidas Nations is to emphasize and focus on adidas’ core belief that real success in the game of basketball comes from playing as a team. The multi-faceted international curriculum will include expert training and strategy tips, comprehensive workout sessions and scrimmages. Off-court elements essential to all athletes’ success, such as nutritional education, global interactions, leadership and philanthropy, will also be woven into the program’s agenda. Athlete’s Performance Institute (API), a leader in sports training, will be on-site to direct and engage the players through advanced programs to supplement their on-court training and provide them training tools for their future basketball careers at the collegiate and professional level.
The community service component of adidas Nations will be led by Peace Players International, a global not-for-profit organization and 2007 ESPN Arthur Ashe Courage Award ESPY recipient. All adidas Nations players, NBA Head Coaches and Mentors will join together on Saturday August 8 from 9-11:30am for free youth basketball clinic at the Larry Johnson Community Center in Downtown Dallas. The clinic will be attended by boys and girls from the LJCC and the J.C.Penny After-School Program in Dallas.
The culmination of adidas Nations camp will feature an intense Championship game pitting the two best regional teams against one another. All daily practices, workout rotations and games will be held at the IAD facility located at 2800 North Interstate 35E, Carrollton, Texas.
Players attending adidas Nations will play in new Nations Team Signature Commander LT footwear. This is the first time an exclusive shoe has been designed for adidas Nations. Eastbay, the official retail sponsor, will retail a limited number of only 200 pairs of shoes at www.eastbay.com/adidasnations for $125.
