STORY
Novak Djokovic won the Australian Open this year the first man representing Serbia to win a Grand Slam singles title. After a straight sets win over World No.1 and defending Champion Roger Federer in the semi-finals, 21 year old Djokovic beat Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in a four set final. World number one Ana Ivanovic is another rising Serbian tennis star claiming headlines. The 20 year old won her first Grand Slam singles title at the French Open this year having been runner up at the same event in 2007. Tennis was dropped as an Olympic sport following the 1924 Games, but reinstated in 1988 for the Seoul Olympics. Ivanovic from Belgrade who now lives in Basel Switzerland remembers playing tennis with Djokovic at the age of ten in Belgrade.

Yes I just saw my first opponent the Russian girl Mariya Koryttseva I don’t know much about her we never played so I just want to try to find my feet for my first match and try to perform the best I can every match here is going to be very hard, everybody wants to do well so I expect tough matches.
1. SOUNDBITE: Ana Ivanovic (same as above in Serbian language)
2. SOUNDBITES: Novak Djokovic,
Yes I am playing Robby _ I have played him two times before on two different surfaces and I won both matches so this can be an encouraging fact for the up coming match.

We did grow up together her father knows my uncle I think from the high school they went together so I remember a little her doesn’t when we played with the toys when we were five or six years old we have basically grown up together playing those junior events. Under 10 under 12 under 14 so it is great to see someone next to you doing so help having grown up in the same conditions and again being so successful.
SOUNDBITES: Novak Djokovic & Ana Ivanovic
We played once, once we warm up for a competition I think it was 10 or under 12 and we hit together for a warm up and I tried to hit so good to impress him that I was tied I couldn’t play my match so I lost so since then I don’t want to.
SOUNDBITE: Ana Ivanovic Novak Djokovic
Its just amazing it such thrilling moment that, a lot of people ask can you compare it to a grand slam is it the same value, for me I don’t see a big difference you know, a grand slam is of course the most important event for a tennis player that there is in the sport but yet again you have an Olympics game which is the most famous and valuable event in all sports
1. SOUNDBITES: Novak Djokovic,
Well there is many players obviously there is Federer and Nedal the two best players in the world, and two biggest favourite where ever they play and on what ever surface but then there is Andy Murray who is playing great tennis at the moment recently he won the masters in Cincinnati so I think he is a big threat to these two guys.

STORY: Reigning Olympic tennis Champion Nicolas Massu of Chile says it’s important he wins his first match if he is to retain his Gold medal in Beijing.

Men's singles, first round, Olympic Green Tennis Centre, 10:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m.; 5-11 p.m.
Men's doubles, first round, Olympic Green Tennis Centre, 10:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m.; 5-11 p.m.
STORY
Two-time Olympic Gold medallist Nicolas Massu of Chile was among 12 players awarded Olympic wild cards by the International Tennis Federation in July. Twenty-eight year old Massu who slipped to 131 in the world rankings claimed gold medals in both the singles and the doubles competition at Athens 2004. Massu and Fernando González defeated Nicolas Kiefer and Rainer Schüttler of Germany to win the doubles competition, making history by giving Chile her first-ever Olympic gold medal. The very next day, Massu captured his second gold by defeating American Mardy Fish in the singles final. Gonzalez also of Chile has beaten the likes of Lleyton Hewitt, Andre Agassi, Roger Federer and Andy Roddick in his time. He won a singles bronze in Athens.

SOUND BITES:
SOUNDBITES: Nicolas Massu
Well I think I don’t know him so well he is a talented player from Belgium but I don’t know him so much I just play with him once two years ago so he his a talented good player I will do my best I think I have chances the first match is also important if you want to do something big here.
SOUNDBITES: Fernando González
I don’t really know him very well but I believe in my ability and what I can do.
SOUNDBITES: Nicolas Massu & Fernando González
It’s my first time in Beijing I’ve been in Tokyo and Shanghai. I think it is very organised Olympics people are very friendly the only bad thing is it is far to far away.
SOUNDBITES: Nicolas Massu & Fernando González
Of course there is always a lot of pressure but there is a lot of support from the people, they know we always give our maximum effort.
SOUNDBITES: Nicolas Massu & Fernando González
We know they are big players but they are not used to playing together. Four years ago we beat Lyubicic and Ancic. I think Ancic has more experience than Cilic and the problem they can cause us is that they play from the back of the courts – they’ll be long rallies it will be hard to play them if they are on a roll and that doesn’t favour us.

STORY: India’s Olympic tennis hopeful Sania Mirza says her could be just a match away from being back to her best form.
Location: Beijing, China
Language: English
Audio:  Track 1 athlete
Overview:
Aug 10
Women's singles, first round, Olympic Green Tennis Centre, 10:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m.; 5-11 p.m.
STORY
Sania Mirza is the highest ranked female tennis player ever to come out of India having reached 27th in the women’s singles list she now has her sights on a Beijing medal. Born in Mumbai the 21 year old also has the distinction of being the first Indian woman to be seeded in a Grand Slam tournament, 26th in the 2007 US Open. Mirza speaks about representing India on the world stage, how her preparations have been going and recovering from injury.
EXPECTED PICTURES & SOUND BITES:
1. SOUNDBITES: Sania Mirza.
Of course there is always pressure when you come from a country like India where people are so emotional about their heros and there athletes. But I think it is very good pressure this is the pressure everybody dreams of to be the medal hope at the Olympics for your country.  I am very excited to be here at my first Olympics and the first time in china as well. Yeah I’m going to try and turn that into a positive and the least I can do is give my best.
1. SOUNDBITES: Sania Mirza.
You know it is very different grand slam happens about 30 40 times in your life Olympics happens maybe just once in your life time and if you are lucky twice. I want to just do my best I’m not going to put pressure on myself by saying that I’m not going to go back without a medal but that’s the goal. I really can’t compare a gold medal to a grand slam title because I think they are two very big feats in two very different ways so that’s something if I had to pick I would pick both.
1. SOUNDBITES: Sania Mirza.
When you come back after an injury it is a very special time bcause you kind of forget how lucky you are to be healthy, you kind of take it for granted winning matches you take alot of things for granted when you are healthy. I have had surgery this year and it is not easy to come back from any injury particularly surgery because you feel you have a new part in your body and you are trying to train it again all the way to play. So that is somethng i am dealing with and i feel i am dealing with it pretty well, i have not played the best tennis but i don’t think i should be expected to play my best tennis, i think it is getting there and sooner or later it will hopefully it will get there this week, i might just take a match to get there.
