STORY:
200m World Champion Allyson Felix says she will use the qualifying rounds to get up to full speed. The, confident American says she get nervous and anxious before a race but once she steps out onto the track those feeling all leave her. Felix who did not qualify for the Olympic 100m event is hoping to add the Olympic title to the World one she claimed in Osaka Japan last year with a personal best of 21.81 seconds. Felix snapped up 3 gold medals in Japan becoming only the second female athlete to do so at a single IAAF World Championship. Marita Koch is the other in 1983. Archrival Veronica Campbell Brown the defending Champion stands in her way as always. The Jamaican who will probably also not run in the 100meters is focused on the 200m Felix admitted that Campbell-Brown is an amazing athlete and that she was looking forward to the challenge. A – She ‘s amazing, you know she’s a great competitor and you know just having the rematch with the Olympic Champion, is really exciting for me – so I definitely look forward to it.

Q – Describe the perfect 200m race?
A – Well the perfect race is just getting out, getting a great start and getting off the curb and letting the curb just sling you around; then push you for the rest of the race. Just power and being really powerful coming home.

Q – Are you over missing out on the 100m?
A – Yeah I’m definitely over not being a part of the 100m, I new going in it would be very difficult just with the depth that America has. So I just re-focused my goals and I’m excited to be running the 200m

Q – How will you approach the rounds?
A – The rounds work really well for me, I feel like it gives me time to gear up and get my ready to go and faster than I ever have before. So I just work on a different things in each round and work on getting up to full speed.

Q – Why is the Olympic medal so special?
A – Well Olympic gold is just so important just because of everything it represents, the Olympic stage is the biggest stage we will ever compete on. We just want to represent our country well and you know the medals are proof that you have done that, and it’s proof that all your hard work has paid off.

A – I definitely get nervous, I always do. All I do is really focus hard and what I need to do in the race. Once I step onto the track it kind of leaves me but I get really anxious waiting for the race to come.

STORY:
Women’s 200m Olympic hopeful Marshevet Hooker says there is no reason to be ‘afraid’ as she has nothing to lose in Beijing. Title less Hooker can be confident that she has what it takes to win gold in her locker. The 23 year old clocked a time of 10.76 to win a heat of the 100 meters at the US trials only five women in history have ever run faster than that neither Veronica Campbell-Brown or Allyson Felix are in that list. The American admits that the extra 100 meters makes for a different race but she believes its anybodies to win.
Hooker says she is going out onto the track forgetting what honours have already been gained by her competitors with the view of producing the best performance she can on the day.

SOUNDBITES: Marshevet Hooker
Q – The 200m is mot your usual distance?
A – Well it’s a bit different it’s longer, but it still is a quick race. I just have to really base my mentality on running really hard all the way through the race; it’s an extra 100m than I’m used too, but it’s still going to be intense.
SOUNDBITES: Marshevet Hooker
Q – Will you be watching for Allyson Felix to appear in view?
A – Well it’s actually pretty funny as at the trials Felix has been in my inside, I was in lane seven. So I was looking for her at any moment to be coming up on my inside. So I was basically running from her. I’m pretty sure that it’s going to be a similar situation like that and we’ll all be looking for each other because at this point everybody is in top shape; it’s anybody’s race, so whoever is ready at that time to run.
SOUNDBITES: Marshevet Hooker
Q – You have run a faster 100m than any of the others you are racing against, does that give you confidence?
A – I guess that falls back into the mental category, you just always have to remember that! I have to go back and just think about the time that I ran and when I go out here it makes you feel as good as your competitors, because you know that you have done it before. So there’s just no reason to be afraid, no reason to feel you can’t accomplish it or you can’t go for the medal. Everyone is going to be great in the final and everyone will be great in the race, but you have to show up on that day; just like I did in the trials.

SOUNDBITES: Marshevet Hooker
Q – being that you have no title, is there more pressure to get one or less because you are the underdog?
A – I think its less pressure, I feel like I have nothing to lose. I’m going out here to put it all on the track to get what everybody else all ready has, which is a world championship or an Olympic medal.
