adidas and Justine Henin-Hardenne, 2001 Wimbledon finalist and winner of two tournaments already in 2003, have entered into a long-term agreement. Justine, ranked 4th in the world, will be adidas’ top ranked female player. She will begin wearing the adidas Competition Apparel Range and the adidas Feather shoe during the Belgium-Austria Fed Cup Tie, April 26-27. Starting with the grass season, she will play in the adidas Barricade II shoe.
Justine is a true performance player. Her quickness, great physical condition, and strong one-handed backhand have helped her reach the top of the women’s game. “Justine is the perfect addition to the adidas tennis family. She is the ultimate performance player, using her passion and commitment to make her one of the most complete players in the game today,” stated Michael Riehl, Head of Global Sports Marketing for adidas.
Justine won her first professional tournament, The Belgian Open, in January 1999, becoming the fifth woman ever to win her debut WTA event. The Family Circle Cup in Charleston, South Carolina, April 2003 was her 8th career singles title (to go along with two doubles titles). She has excelled in the Grand Slam Tournaments, reaching the finals of Wimbledon in 2001 and the Semifinals of three other Grand Slams, Roland Garros in 2001, Wimbledon in 2002 and the Australian Open in 2003. In addition, she now has two Tier One WTA titles, defeating Serena Williams to win the German Open in 2002 and again defeating Serena to win the Family Circle Cup on April 13, 2003 (which ended Serena’s 21 match win streak!).
“I look forward to working with adidas for many years to come. Their reputation for producing quality tennis footwear and apparel is well known. adidas’ experience and expertise will be a key part of my on-court performance in the future,” said Justine.
