Jam Master Jay Foundation for Music celebrates the 35th anniversary of the Superstar honoring the life of Jam Master Jay

While honoring the life of Jam Master Jay at a gala benefit on February 25th, 2005 in New York City, the Jam Master Jay Foundation for Music and adidas celebrated the 35th anniversary of the iconic adidas Superstar sneaker. The event, entitled JMJ: SUPERSTAR, raised funds for the Jam Master Jay Foundation for Music, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing funding and resources to support free, public school music education programs.

Artists DMC, Missy Elliott, Chuck D and Flava Flav, the Beastie Boys, Underworld, Fat Joe, NAS, Lil Kim, Russell Simmons, Ian Brown, Bone Thugs -N- Harmony and fellow luminaries from the music, fashion and entertainment worlds celebrated and honored their friend and mentor, Jam Master Jay.

Project Playground, the NYC based basketball performance crew, gave an outstanding on-stage performance under guidance of Bobbito Garcia, naturally all wearing the Project Playground Superstar 35 models with matching adidas uniforms.

The evening’s highlight was the extraordinary surprise performance from Public Enemy, not having been seen on stage for over a decade. With immense energy and respectfully honoring Jam Master Jay, Chuck D , Flava Flav, and the complete original PE lineup made a statement as pure hip hop legends, making the crowd go wild when Chuck D posted two mini Superstars on his shoulders.

A host of artists and DJs in an exclusive, club-style atmosphere along with dinner, drinks, and multi-media installations from Ricky Powell, Jamel Shabazz, Lee Quinones, Joe Conzo, Glenn E. Friedman, Martha Cooper, ART and Marco, made all together an unforgettable evening.

All proceeds raised were donated to the Jam Master Jay Foundation for Music.

Jason Mizell rocked the world with Run-DMC, bringing the sound of cutting and scratching vinyl to new audiences across the globe. His untimely death in 2002 stunned fans and shocked the hip-hop community. Jay’s wife, Terri Corley-Mizell, created the Jam Master Jay Foundation for Music to continue Jay’s legacy of creativity, positivity and community support. The JMJ Foundation is committed to enriching the lives of inner city school students through the contribution of resources to enable, create and/or improve in-school or after school music education programs.

adidas is pleased and honored to join the Jam Master Jay Foundation in these efforts.
